Collaboration and Interdependency Culture Leadership

Collaboration and Interdependency Culture Leadership

In Nordic countries we see the impact values of cooperation and equality have had on creating a healthy and successful society. These are high levels of consciousness to which the rest of the world can aspire. With the complexity of life inside and outside organizations increasing, the values of collaboration and interdependency are becoming necessary in how we think and how we work together and partner with public, private, and non-profit sectors to find solutions. No one person, team or organization has all the answers any more.

Collaboration and interdependency are new ways of thinking and acting to solve our global challenges. The external drivers of change are requiring us to act and take responsibility in new ways that have not been thought of before. These external forces of change are creating new internal forces affecting the culture inside organizations and the norms of behavior and values of their leaders. The change needs to begin at the level of thinking and consciousness of the leaders. When leaders change how they see the world and change their perspective on how they view a problem and see it instead as an opportunity, whole new strategies can emerge. This is why in figure Drivers for Change, the direction of change begins at the bottom, with a change in mindset.

Young leaders see potential in globalization and partnering to drive convergence in public, private, and non-profit sectors to find solutions to the world’s toughest problems. These emerging leaders were raised with different values than graduates thirty years ago, who were raised in families where children were seen and not heard. The emerging leaders were invited constantly as they were growing up to participate, collaborate, and take responsibility in decision making. Their passions are more global with a social mindset and belief in working collaboratively to share information and learn from each other.
